Metris announces the release of the K-scan MMZ handheld laser scanner. The new K-Scan MMZ is a portable, walk-around scanning solution combining the Metris ModelMaker Z laser scanner and the portable K-series Optical CMM. The K-Scan is ideally suited for on-site 3D digitizing tasks where minimal setup time and fast results are key requirements. The lightweight probe features two different stripe widths (70mm and 140mm) aiming at faster scanning or higher resolution scanning. With a measurement range from 1.5m to 6m, the K-Scan MMZ offers freedom where traditional articulated arms are out of reach.
The ergonomic probe is equipped with 20 LEDs, resulting in good visibility by the optical CMM, independent of the probes orientation. The scanning is controlled by programmable buttons at the user's fingertips. The "Enhanced Sensor Performance" (ESP) feature automatically adapts the laser intensity to the surface properties, enabling scanning of both shiny and dark surfaces with minimal user interaction. The K-Scan MMZ is driven by the intuitive KUBE v12 at a rate of 23,000 points/sec.
According to Metris, the K-Scan system is capable of handling the movement or repositioning of the measured part or camera without the need for manual camera re-alignment. The component is equipped with a set of reference LEDs, enabling the system to dynamically reference the measured part.
