Fans for wind tunnel applications

Fairfield, Ohio – Howden American Fan Co., a manufacturer of high-quality industrial fans and blowers and part of the Howden Industrial Fan Group, now offers a range of wind tunnel axial and centrifugal fans.

Howden manufactures axial fans for wind tunnel applications as small as 6" and as large as 144". Centrifugal fans offered range from 3" to 108". Howden fans are tested to Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) standards, guaranteeing they will provide the cubic feet per minute (cfm) and static pressures specified. Howden’s engineers have more than 150 years of fan experience. They also maintain an on-site AMCA-certified test laboratory where they can verify the fan’s performance.

In the past, Howden has supplied fans to the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) for conducting research on the effects of a category 4 hurricane. IBHS conducts objective, scientific research to find and promote the most effective ways to strengthen homes, businesses, and communities against natural disasters and other causes of loss. Howden provided 105 vane-axial fans, each with a 350hp motor fan. The IBHS facility is the largest wind tunnel of its kind ever built.

Several universities and government agencies have relied on Howden to supply fans for use in smaller wind tunnels for research on wind storm impact and structural engineering research, including Louisiana State University, NASA, the University of Alabama, and the US Air Force. NASCAR uses Howden fans in wind tunnels to test the aerodynamics of car designs.

Howden wind tunnels have also been used for more than 30 sky diving facilities in various location within the United States and around the world.

Howden axial fans for wind tunnel applications provide a concentrated stream of air in a vertical or horizontal flow. They are specifically designed so they will not operate in a stall condition where excessive vibration could damage the fan. Howden application experts use performance criteria to help customers select the correct fan, for proper operation within specific application parameters.
