At IMTS 2014 Okuma will introduce the new version of its GA-26T cylindrical grinding machine, which is designed to support OD grinding in high-volume, automated production environments. The compact T-Series is engineered to hold the work piece stationary while the grinding wheel traverses back and forth. Available in both angle and plain head, this design is extremely cost effective for production lines with small to mid-sized parts. At IMTS this machine will be shown grinding multiple diameters with a formed grinding wheel, finishing a wormshaft that was cut on the new HJ-250E-T horizontal lathe and loaded into the grinder using automation provided by Gosiger Automation.
Equipped with features that enhance the automation process, this CNC grinding machine provides simultaneous dressing and loading, fixed table construction, wheel head traverse construction and compact design. The GA-26T II features Okuma’s patented hydrodynamic wheel spindle that:
• Provides rigidity
• Includes offset radial load equal to 1 micro meter per 100 kg. (.000018 in. per 100 lbs.)
• Includes rotating accuracy of 0.01 micro meter (.0000004 in.)
• Provides higher surface finishes for given type of grinding wheels
• Eliminates chipping of brittle materials such as carbides and ceramics
• Eliminates the dulling at the edges of splines and other intermittent shaft surfaces
