UTC Aerospace Systems to supply 3 additional systems for Boeing's 777X

Charlotte, North Carolina – Boeing has selected UTC Aerospace Systems for three additional systems on the new Boeing 777X large, twin-engine jet. These are in addition to numerous systems on the aircraft awarded to UTC Aerospace Systems in 2015. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp.

 

UTC Aerospace Systems will now also provide the horizontal stabilizer trim actuator that moves the horizontal stabilizer to stabilize the aircraft in the pitch axis during flight. This flight-critical component, part of the 777X flight control system, is being developed by UTC Aerospace Systems' Ratier-Figeac subsidiary and is an advanced design from field-proven technology.

 

Additionally, UTC Aerospace Systems has been selected to provide the ground maneuvering camera system (GMCS) and proximity sensor data concentrators (PSDC) for the 777X. The GMCS enhances situational awareness by providing pilots video and camera views of the nose gear, main gear and wingtip areas to aid in taxiway maneuvering. The system also offers a unique passenger experience by providing a wingtip to wingtip view from the aircraft's vertical stabilizer through in-flight entertainment (IFE) video. The system includes high definition digital video cameras as well as a taxi camera interface unit. Designed to reduce the risk of parts obsolescence, the system can be configured for specific customer requirements.

 

The PSDC system senses and monitors the position of multiple surfaces throughout the aircraft, including interior, exterior, thrust reverser doors, and tail position. The system's software is housed in a central computer, allowing distributed architecture to reduce weight and enhance reliability and usability.

Previously Boeing chose UTC Aerospace Systems to supply the electric power generating system, cabin air conditioning, and temperature control system, airfoil and cowling ice protection system, and the complete ventilation system suite of fans. Other UTC Aerospace Systems equipment for the 777X include fire/overheat protection, power door opening system, cargo loading system, cabin attendant seating, air data systems, ice detection, wheels & brakes, and a suite of sensors for various 777X functions.
