PartMaker Inc., a division of Delcam Plc and the developers of PartMaker SwissCAM software, REM Sales LLC, the exclusive U.S. Importers of the Tsugami line of Swiss-type lathes and Kennametal Inc., a leading global tooling supplier, have teamed up to offer a two-day educational course titled “Swiss Machining Fundamentals” to be held January 16 – 17, 2008 and May 21 – 22, 2008. The course will be held at Kennametal’s world headquarters in Latrobe, PA at the Kennametal Knowledge Center. The Kennametal Knowledge Center is a state of the art learning laboratory dedicated to providing expert instruction in metal cutting application engineering.
The two-day Swiss Machining Fundamentals Course is designed to develop specific competencies in process optimization and tool selection and application for micro machining applications. The course covers the metal cutting processes of ID turning and OD turning for micro applications, while also detailing such areas as rotating tooling and quick-change tooling for micro machines. Finally, part processing application techniques will help with micro machining success. This two-day course is designed specifically to address the needs of Process Engineers, CNC Programmers and Tool Engineers. The course will be taught by Ted Woodward, manager of education programs for the Kennametal Knowledge Center.

REM Sales has provided a Tsugami SS-20 Super Swiss, the latest addition to the Tsugami line of Swiss-type lathes. The Tsugami SS-20 features include a modular tool zone with up to twenty-five (25) resident tools, a Fanuc 31i-A dual path CNC, 220mm (8.67”) of stroke, and the most rugged fine ground cast iron base in the industry. The Tsugami SS-20 easily handles cross and face milling, drilling, and tapping as well as angular drilling, thread whirling and polygon turning.
PartMaker Inc. has also provided the Kennametal Knowledge Center with its PartMaker SwissCAM software, the industry leading CAM system for automating the programming of CNC Swiss-type lathes. PartMaker Inc. and REM Sales have collaborated to create a seamless programming solution for the new Tsugami SS which features a robustly developed post processor and comprehensive 3D “Full Machine Simulation” facility.
PartMaker SwissCAM and Tsugami product specialists will be on hand during the two-day seminar to aid Kennametal’s instructors in demonstrating each company’s unique technology relates to the CNC Turning process.
