Sagem of France, part of the Safran group, is building a new facility in Morocco for the production of mechanical and electronic components for the aerospace industry. The agreement was signed during the inauguration of the Mid Parc industrial park in a ceremony attended by His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI of Morocco, Abdelkader Amara. The plant, located in the Nouaceur airport zone near Casablanca, will be running by September 2014.
The Sagem Moroc subsidiary will be about 43,000ft2 in size and employ 150 workers by 2015.
"This investment in Sagem Maroc is designed to increase Sagem's competitiveness, and is part of the company's modernization drive, also including a new plant in Buchelay, in the greater Paris area," Sagem officials say. "Sagem's industrial development program aims to ensure the long-term production of critical mechanical parts in France, while also giving Sagem world-class production facilities to meet the competitiveness requirements of today's global civil aviation market."
Production of the mechanical and electronic components begins this month at a temporary site during construction of the new facility. Investment in the business unit this year is $6.7 million.
Bombardier also committed to constructing a new facility in the same location during the MidParc inauguration.
