Mazak Horizontal Machining Center

Mazak introduces the Mega-8800, a highly rigid horizontal machining center that makes the heavy-duty machining of tough materials, such as Inconel and titanium, extremely efficient, accurate, and productive.
   
With its powerful design construction, the Mega-8800 employs a continuous 4,000rpm, 100hp (74 kW) integral motor spindle that generates 774ft/lb of torque. It offers a rapid traverse rate of 1,219ipm for the X- and Z-axes and 1,016ipm for the Y-axis. Furthermore, the Mega-8800 provides the powerful thrust force that’s necessary for heavy-duty cutting, with 5,530ft/lb of torque in the X- and Z-axes and 5,800ft/lb in the Y-axis. 

Machine travels measure 55" (1400mm) in X, 47" (1200mm) in Y and 52" (1325mm) in Z, and the Mega-8800 incorporates Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System to deliver levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. For precise 4-axis indexing and machining, the Mega-8800’s NC rotary table rotates 90° in 3.2 seconds and features 1° minimum increments. The table incorporates Mazak’s high-precision 360° position coupling and accommodates workpiece sizes up to 57" (1450mm) in diameter and 57" (1450mm) high.

Cam-driven tool changing on the Mega-8800 further reduces non-cut times by ensuring fast and reliable 5-second chip-to-chip tool change cycles. The machine’s automatic tool changer stores up to 60 tools and accommodates maximum tool diameters of 10.24" (260mm).

Mazak makes the programming of multiple surfaces on the Mega-8800 easy with its Windows 7-based Matrix Nexus 2 CNC control. The control allows for both conversational and EIA/ISO programming, and ensures easy programming for C-axis, Y-axis and angle machining. Matrix also provides realistic 3D machining simulations, time study analysis and the Mazak Voice Advisor, which assists operators during setup to make initial operations smoother and safer.

A two-pallet changer is standard with the Mega-8800 and pre-engineered to interface with Mazak’s Palletech manufacturing system for unattended operation. The machine’s pallet size is 31.5" x 31.5" (800mm x 800mm), with a maximum load capacity of 4,850 lb (2,200kg).
