Over the evolution of machining, many manufacturing shops have focused on the best approaches to achieve their final results. There has always been the selection process of picking the machine with the accuracy requirements for the jobs. Drill and mill bits were chosen based on size and shape of end product. Software selection based on control, programming ease and type of application (basic to advanced applications). In most cases, the workholding was the last item on the list and it was generally decided to use a bench vise or somehow clamp the material to the table. As all the technology has improved and accuracy demands have become greater and greater, we have found a pyramid, of sorts, of how everything must work together - quality machines, quality tools and holders, software capable of complex work and geometry, and then workholding which could easily hold the parts but also aide in producing less vibration, increased accuracy, more access to the machined part in one set up, and then minimizing left over scrap or finish work. Just like all the other components, workholding has become a critical part to quality production.

Meet your presenter
With over 37 years in the machine tool industry, Jon Dobosenski has had the fortune of working with customers across North America and traveling internationally to Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, England, and Germany. He has been involved in service, support, operations, sales, and distribution of OEM machines and workholding in North America with a vast range of product focus from electro discharge machines (EDM), swiss lathes, high speed mills, vision inspection systems, and precision workholding. Working from the OEM side of business has allowed him the experience to partner with manufacturing companies from small one man shops to large corporations ranging in key market segments from medical and dental to aerospace, electronics, and automotive.
