Kaman completes acquisition of Bal Seal Engineering Inc.

Expands portfolio of engineered products, creates opportunities in broader markets.


Kaman Corp. has completed acquisition of Bal Seal Engineering Inc., which designs, develops, and manufactures highly engineered products including precision springs, seals, and contacts. The acquisition, announced in November 2019, expands Kaman’s portfolio of engineered products and offerings while creating new opportunities to reach customers in medical technology, aerospace and defense, and industrial markets.

Kaman Corp., founded in 1945 by aviation pioneer Charles H. Kaman, is headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Kaman produces and markets proprietary aircraft bearings and components; super precision, miniature ball bearings; complex metallic and composite aerostructures for commercial, military, and general aviation fixed and rotary wing aircraft; safe and arming solutions for missile and bomb systems for the U.S. and allied militaries; subcontract helicopter work; restoration, modification, and support of its SH-2G Super Seasprite maritime helicopters. It also manufactures and supports K-MAX manned and unmanned medium-to-heavy lift helicopters.

Bal Seal Engineering Inc. is a global provider of custom-engineered sealing, connecting, conducting, and EMI/RFI shielding solutions for industry. The company’s products employ unique Bal Spring canted coil spring technology for enhanced performance and reliability.

Since 1998, its headquarters is a 125,000ft2 facility in Foothill Ranch, California. Manufacturing began at a second U.S. location in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2007, which expanded into a new 155,000ft2 facility in 2014.
