Mazak Corp Response to Events in Japan

Brian Papke Speaks to Reporters Regarding Events, Facilities

Workers at ker Mazak Corp.’s Midwestern technology center in Schaumburg, IL, awaited word whether volunteers would travel to Japan to help their colleagues at technology centers in Sendai and Tsukuba, which suffered damage but no known deaths from the earthquake and tsunami disaster.

Mazak President Brian Papke said the company’s North American division is readying teams to go to Japan to get back in business the owners of manufacturing and machine shops whose Mazak-made machines are destroyed or damaged.

“Everyone in Japan will be touched by this tragic event in some way,” Papke says, who has traveled to Japan, by his estimate, 60 times.

Papke says the company is assessing whether certain shipping ports will be shuttered or components makers delayed due to the disaster.

Statement from Mazak Corp.
We have received many messages from persons all over the world concerning last Friday's devastating earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region of Japan.

We are extremely grateful to state that no Yamazaki Mazak employees nor their family members were injured in this unprecedented natural disaster. The only Yamazaki Mazak facilities that were damaged were the Sendai Technology Center and the Tsukuba Technology Center. As their damage was relatively minor, they will return to operation as soon as possible.

Everyone in Japan is deeply appreciative of the extensive international rescue and recovery efforts that are already under way and are working closely with the Japanese rescue and relief workers.

We join with you in expressing our deepest sympathy to the victims and their families of this catastrophe.
