In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Great Lakes Science Center will offer FREE general admission to all guests from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, January 15, presented by the John P. Murphy Foundation.
This year, the Great Lakes Science Center will have special programming throughout the day that highlights Ohioans in Space! As part of the theme for the day, guests will be able to learn about the legacy and contributions Ohioans have made to aerospace advancements. The Ohioans in Space theme is in conjunction with the January 24, 2024 unveiling of a new painting in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda, commissioned by the Capitol Square Foundation, that honors these individuals. The new painting will hang directly across from the portrait of the Wright Brothers, as part of Ohio’s narrative of “First in Flight.”
There will be a free showing of the film “Apollo 11: First Steps Edition” at 11 a.m. with tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis. The movie screening will be preceded by comments from William Hinsch, the commissioned artist of the Ohioans in Space painting and Charles Moses, the board chair of the Capitol Square Foundation. Hinsch and Moses will greet guests in the Science Center after the movie as well.
Guests can also enjoy live science shows such as Bubblemania and Seeing Sound, and hands-on science cart activities and programs where guests can learn about Ohioans in Space, the work of NASA’s Glenn Research Center and more!
General admission at the Science Center includes the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, the Polymer Funhouse (for those 7 and younger), and hundreds of hands-on, interactive science exhibits including a current special exhibition, Build It: Engineering Ideas Brick by Brick! Whether you are a seasoned builder or a first-time explorer, this extraordinary wonderland of colorful bricks offers the perfect playground to construct your wildest ideas and take on exciting challenges.
All other movies in the Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater after “Apollo 11” will be discounted for the event. Adult and youth tickets will be $5.
Parking is available for a reduced rate of $9 per vehicle in the Science Center’s attached garage. Additional parking beyond the Science Center’s garage is available in the surface lot north of Cleveland Browns Stadium.
