AMETEK to Provide Accelerometers, Other Components

AMETEK Aerospace Teams with Embraer to Provide Super Tucano Aircraft for U.S. Air Force Light Air Support

AMETEK Sensors & Fluid Management Systems (SFMS), a leader in sensor technology for a broad range of aircraft engine and airframe applications, is among the suppliers selected by Embraer (Empresa Brasilieira de Aeron?utica S.A.) to support the recently awarded Light Air Support (LAS) contract from the U.S. Air Force.

“AMETEK is proud to be part of the team selected by the U.S. Air Force for this important program. Embraer is a key customer with an outstanding reputation for developing best-in-class aircraft for a wide range of commercial and military aviation customers. We look forward to working with them as they develop the aircraft for this key mission,” comments Andy Brandenburg, vice president and business unit manager for AMETEK SFMS.

The advanced single-engine, turboprop aircraft will be built at Sierra Nevada Corporation’s manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, Fla., and used for flight training, aerial reconnaissance, and light air support operations. Nearly 90% of the Super Tucano will be made of parts supplied by U.S. companies, such as AMETEK, and program is expected to support more than 1,200 jobs at 100+ U.S. companies.

Among the AMETEK products included in the program are advanced triaxial accelerometers that provide simultaneous measurement of acceleration along three axes (vertical, longitudinal and lateral). The accelerometers are designed to ARINC specifications 573 and 717 and are tested to TSO C51a and RTCA DO-160. The accelerometers meet mandatory requirements of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and other worldwide regulatory agencies.

Also aboard the A-29 Super Tucano from AMETEK are AMPHIONTM Solid-State Relays (SSR) that combine the functions of a power contactor and an arc fault circuit breaker in one small and efficient module that fits standard M12883/48-02 sockets and can switch up to 25A at 28VDC.
