U.S. Senators Launch Aerospace Caucus

Although aerospace is one of U.S. industry's bright spots - sales by U.S. aerospace companies totaled more than $214 billion in 2009, the industry's sixth record-breaking year in a row - Murray warned of danger ahead.

If the U.S. Senate's new Aerospace Caucus were listed in alphabetical order with other congressional groups that champion particular interests, it would come after the Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus and before Alzheimer's Disease Congressional Task Force.

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., introduced Congress' newest caucus May 6, saying it was being founded "to fight for the needs of our aerospace industry in the years to come."

Although aerospace is one of U.S. industry's bright spots - sales by U.S. aerospace companies totaled more than $214 billion in 2009, the industry's sixth record-breaking year in a row - Murray warned of danger ahead.

"There are some very big warning signs that our aerospace industry is headed towards trouble," she said. "There is a lack of certainty among our aerospace manufacturers about what the future holds and what they should be building for."
