The global unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) market size is estimated to be worth $3.24 billion in 2022 and is forecast to be $7.23 billion by 2028 with a compound annual growth rate of 14.4%, according to Valuates Reports.

“Global Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Market Insights, Forecast to 2028” specifies how the market is expanding due to increased UAV use in commercial and civil applications, such as search and rescue, parcel delivery, security, precision agriculture, and infrastructure inspection.

The military sector offers opportunities for market growth due to the increasing use of UAVs for surveillance, border patrol, logistics, communication, and attack.

Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) integration will enable UAVs to analyze and map aerial images, data that can be used for relief operations, disaster management, and emergency services, further driving demand for UAVs. https://reports.valuates.com

Percepto approved for remote operations at 200ft

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has allowed operators to use the Percepto drone-in-a-box solution to perform highly automated beyond visual line of sight (HA BVLOS) inspection and monitoring at a Texas solar power plant. The drone operations are approved up to 200ft above ground level – double the altitude of previously approved HA BVLOS drone operation in the U.S. – without a pilot or visual observer on site.

Percepto’s automated detect and avoid cycle eliminates the need for remote pilot-in-command intervention if other aircraft are detected within the airspace.

The approved solar power plant deployment serves as a model for oil & gas, mining, and utilities applications of automated remote inspection to monitor larger areas and taller structures, including mapping and modeling. https://percepto.co

San Clemente, California-based Swift Engineering and its Japanese subsidiary Swift Xi will support Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in a digital infrastructure development project. Swift Tactical Systems and the Swift group are collaborating with other partners to develop a 3D spatial information infrastructure for flight safety information.

NEDO plans to make it easier and more efficient to search, integrate, and provide spatial information in a machine-readable format to realize safe, efficient operation of autonomous vehicles. The Japanese government wants unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and urban air mobility (UAM) to fly within Japan’s urban areas by 2030. https://www.swiftengineering.com; https://swift-xi.com; https://www.swifttacticalsystems.com

Northrop Grumman, NASA partner to integrate UAS into national airspace

NASA and Northrop Grumman Corp. are collaborating to develop and test solutions for integrating large, uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System. The effort will focus on air cargo operations and is part of NASA’s Air Traffic Management-eXploration (ATM-X) Pathfinding for Airspace with Autonomous Vehicles (PAAV) subproject.

The organizations will exchange data to define technologies and procedures for remotely piloted systems, including coordinating with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), flight readiness reviews, and developing a test plan for simulations and flight demonstrations. https://www.northropgrumman.com; https://www.nasa.gov
