Embraer has selected Saft Ultra Low Maintenance (ULM®) batteries as original equipment for the Praetor 500 and 600 fleets from September 2021. The contract also covers the batteries as aftermarket equipment for Embraer Praetor 500, Praetor 600, Legacy 450, and Legacy 500 aircraft models.
The Praetor 500 midsize business jet features full fly-by-wire digital flight controls with active turbulence reduction and can take off and land on short runways, giving access to more airports worldwide. The cabin provides a premium level of comfort for up to 9 passengers. Its sister plane, the Praetor 600 super-midsize business jet can carry up to 12 passengers.
Saft has developed the 443CH1 ULM battery specifically for Embraer. It delivers 24V and 44Ah capacity, providing power for auxiliary power unit (APU) starting, back up, and emergency power for avionics and flight controls. The battery also supports electrical system loads as needed.
“This new contract for Embraer significantly increases Saft’s footprint in business aviation with the Legacy 450/500 and Praetor 500/600 platforms now added to our portfolio, which already included multiple Embraer platforms,” said Chuck Schofield, general manager for Aviation. “This is a new milestone and a major achievement for Saft that strengthens our relations with Embraer.”
Saft ULM aviation batteries offer easily replaceable spare parts as well as the capability to be stored for long periods – up to 10 years – with no deterioration in performance.
Saft is a wholly owned subsidiary of TotalEnergies, a broad energy company that produces and markets energies on a global scale: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables, and electricity.
