Continuum Powders has qualified its reclaimed metal powders for use on Renishaw’s RenAM 500 series additive manufacturing (AM) machines.
“The quality of Continuum Powders’ materials and their commitment to what they call the circular metal economy align perfectly with Renishaw’s vision for a more sustainable manufacturing future,” says John Laureto, AM business manager at Renishaw. “The availability of reclaimed metal powders meeting our exacting standards helps manufacturers reduce waste while maintaining peak performance.”
“We’re thrilled to have our reclaimed powders qualified for the RenAM 500 series,” says Continuum Powders’ CEO Rob Higby. “This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions to the market, and we look forward to further developing reclaimed powders that help customers achieve both their performance and environmental goals.”

Turbo-powered 3D-printed drone successfully completes tests

Cummings Aerospace recently completed a series of rigorous flight tests for its 3D-printed, turbo-powered Hellhound kamikaze drone. The drone was subjected to three tests at Pendleton UAS Range, Oregon, in which it flew faster than 350mph at half throttle while exceeding distances of 20km, using just 50% of its fuel. The tests also proved Hellhound’s ability to conduct intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions by validating its seeker with live video transmission during flight.
Hellhound performed reliably in very low temperatures, high winds, and snow. The tests validated the airframe and key subsystems at Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL-7), proving reliable performance in operationally realistic conditions. In coming months, Cummings will conduct additional flight tests to bring the entire system to TRL 7, conduct demonstrations and tests of Hellhound for customers, and submit a proposal formally offering the drone to the U.S. Army for the Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) program.

Velo3D welcomes new executives

Velo3D, developer of additive manufacturing (AM) technology for mission-critical parts, announced two new executive hires. Darren Beckett joined the company as chief technology officer to oversee the development and implementation of all internal and external technology initiatives across the company. Beckett has more than 25 years of experience in technology leadership, innovation, and organizational transformation, including two decades at Intel Corp. Prior to joining Velo3D, he held roles as VP of engineering at Woodruff Scientific and chief technology officer at Sigma Additive Solutions, where he helped develop the company’s AM quality control IP portfolio.
Michelle Sidwell has been appointed chief revenue officer and will lead sales, marketing, and customer service teams across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She will also oversee Velo3D’s business development team, which works with engineers in various industries to identify opportunities where metal AM can transform their manufacturing processes. She previously served as SVP of Global Enterprise Business at Salesloft, which provides sales teams with an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered revenue workflow platform, as well as holding sales and leadership roles at Adobe, Persado, and Walsworth. Sidwell spent nearly five years at Yext, where she helped the company grow revenue from $60 million to $300 million.
