A streamlined and versatile process control system for match grinding of ultra-precision parts will be demonstrated. The demonstration will highlight Marposs' ability to apply a broad range of measurement technologies necessary for controlling the accuracy of bearings, fuel and hydraulic system components, tooling, and other precision parts using gages and other apparatus designed for reliable operation on the shop floor.
Featured will be pre-process and in-process gages that are integrated using a single Marposs P7 multi-function amplifier. The P7 unit is available in several configurations including a modular design that can be embedded inside the machine's control.
Typically in match grinding, the OD of one component is ground to precisely match the ID of a mating component - a process that eliminates the requirement for classifying and sorting finished parts for assembly. This is accomplished by sending measurement data from a pre-process gage used to measure the ID of one part to an in-process gage on the grinder that controls the finished size of the mating part's OD. The Marposs P7 electronic unit in this application provides the ability to accomplish the required measurements and calculations rapidly and manage the data for efficient process control.
