Automated code reading vision sensors
SBSI series vision sensors for code reading and quality inspection offer fast set-up; compact, rugged IP67 housing; built-in lighting; and EtherNet/IP capability. The sensors can be ordered as components, parts of a sub-system ready for assembly, or incorporated into a plug-and-play module. The product line includes SBSI B and SBSI-Q.
SBSI-B reads 1D and 2D codes, used to identify, track, and trace products for production flow, logistics, and serialization. The model can also read direct part marking (DPM) codes, including laser etched and dot-peened codes, and can check for the quality of a DPM code. SBSI-B reads up to 10 codes per image.
The SBSI-Q, for quality inspection, can be used for completeness and presence sensing to ensure all relevant parts are mounted and/or present. The system can compare an object’s contour with taught-in reference patterns, and evaluate pixels within the search area by calculating contrast, brightness, or variations in gray scale. SBSI series optics offer a range of reading areas and working distances. Code reading models have enhanced depth of field to increase the area of focus.

Output filters for AC motors
FN5060 dV/dt filters protect AC motors from the destructive effects of peak voltages and inrush amps, increasing service life and system reliability. This technology protects motors and adjacent equipment without capacitors or resistors, making them simple to install. They efficiently reduce high output dV/dt from insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) motor drives and eliminate over-voltages caused by line reflections on motor cables, per IEC 60034-17/25. Typical dV/dt reduction is 8x to 12x. These filters are designed for loads up to 760VAC, 30A to 1,200A, and motors up to 60Hz. They are for motor drives with short-to-medium cable lengths; servo or torque motors; ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including pumps, fans, and compressors; elevators; hoists and cranes; process equipment; and applications where sine wave filters are not suited, such as high dynamic operations.

Automation controller
The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 5380 controller provides 20% more application capacity than previous versions and is designed for high-speed applications with up to 20-axes of motion. When combined with the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 5069 Compact I/O system, scheduled outputs improve I/O response time to as fast as 0.2ms. Event triggers from the I/O modules provide near-instantaneous task execution.
A dual-configurable, 1Gb/s Ethernet port supports device-level-ring topologies or the use of multiple IP addresses. The ability to create multiple IP addresses is especially useful for manufacturers seeking to establish network separation between plant-floor and enterprise-level traffic.
Diagnostic indicator lights display the status of communications, module health, and I/O module activity, to allow operators and technicians to immediately understand problems. In addition, built-in system and field power terminals reduce wiring to I/O modules.

Expanded fuse ratings
New current ratings have been added to the UMT-H series, including 20A, 25A, and 30A. The higher current ratings provide 24 rated currents between 160mA and 30A at varying voltages up to 277VAC and 250VDC. The SMD fuse, UMT-H, has a 1,500A breaking capacity, is UL approved up to 6.3A at 277VAC and up to 30A at 250VAC, with rated breaking capacity from 1,500A to 100A, depending on rated voltage. It has VDE approval up to 16A at 250VAC. Applications include power supplies, high end servers, PC voltage regulators and fans for servers, advance telecommunication computing architecture (ATCA) applications for cloud computing, and battery management systems.

Schneider Electric earns exida certification for IACS cybersecurity
Schneider Electric has been certified by exida, a globally recognized ISO 17065 accredited certification body in cybersecurity, for compliance with its Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) certification based on IEC 62443-4-1.
Schneider Electric’s Process Automation business product development centers in Foxboro, Massachusetts; Worthing, U.K.; and Hyderabad, India, won exida’s first industry certificate for SDL. Based on international cybersecurity standards, the system was developed to accelerate industry-wide cybersecurity improvement for industrial automation and control systems (IACS).
“[Schneider Electric has] a strong, industry-leading product development process to begin with and takes a serious view of every cybersecurity issue. They built upon that reputation to meet exida’s certification requirements and have strengthened the process that already helps them avoid and counter vulnerabilities,” says William Goble, Ph.D., exida managing director.

High-density modules
DMC-M high-density 30-23 modules are designed for EN4165, BACC65, and ARINC 809 shells. The increased density of the 30-position modules provides a 50% increase in contact counts compared to existing 20-22 modules, allowing two 30-23 modules to provide the same 60-contact density as three 20-22 modules. This feature reduces connector and harness sizes and allows space and weight savings. The high-density modules are designed for applications such as in-flight entertainment and cabin systems, high-speed Internet access, lighting and window dimming, power distribution and control, and electrical wiring and interconnect systems.

High-performance, half-bridge power module
The high-performance 62mm module allows system designers to cut sizes up to 67% by achieving efficiencies above 98% and 10x improvements in power density compared to systems built with silicon-based technologies. The silicon carbide module offers higher power density for applications in which volume and weight are critical, operating at a higher switching frequency that reduces the number and size of magnetic and passive components required for the balance of the system. It features a 66% reduction in module inductance to 5.5nH, enabling faster switching speeds, higher frequency operation, and ultra-low losses.
