March 2019 answer: Grumman F9F-8 (F-9) Cougar
March 2019 winner
Stan Miller, Electrical Systems/Project Designer, ATI Forged Products, Cudahy, Wisconsin
How long have you been in the aerospace business? Nine years.
How did you become interested in aircraft? Growing up in the Philippines with my missionary parents, there were many airport visits as others came to visit the island. Our Boy Scout troop went on a U.S. Navy cruise from Manila to Subic Bay and witnessed some naval aircraft demonstrations while en route. I have also been blessed by living near Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and have been an EAA AirVenture Flight Line Operations volunteer for 10 years. I finally started my lifelong dream to learn how to fly this past summer.
What is your favorite aircraft and why? Commercial: Boeing 747 for its iconic design, roomy interior, and how it leapt off the deck in less runway than much smaller jets. Military propeller: P-51 Mustang for the power and speed from its Merlin engine – who doesn’t love it? Military jet: F-22 Raptor for its stealth, sleek lines, and thrust-vectored maneuverability. Personal: The Cessna 172 always evoked my desire to learn to fly.
