In a presentation to U.S. Army and Air Force officials, Lockheed Martin successfully demonstrated analytics-driven maintenance capabilities compatible with the Department of Defense’s 5G flight-line ecosystem, a critical step toward equipping service members with real-time, actionable information to improve aircraft readiness and reduce costs.

The Network-enabled Analytics for Readiness 5G initiative (NeAR) illustrates how 5G communications technology and advanced analytics minimize the maintenance burden for a variety of aircraft.

After the aircraft lands, the NeAR application provides maintainers and technical experts with complete flight data recordings and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven predictive maintenance and sensor-data analytics. Users can instantly search all historical maintenance records across their entire fleet to identify similar issues and resolutions. Lockheed Martin integrated this technology with portable devices to put these capabilities into the hands of service members on the flight line to facilitate faster decision-making.

NeAR technology leverages multi-access edge computing, which reduces the distance and latency gap between data requests and data delivery. https://www.lockheedmartin.com

Pratt & Whitney to invest $255M in sustainment center near Tinker AFB

Raytheon Technologies business Pratt & Whitney plans to invest $255 million through 2028 in a sustainment facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The 845,000ft2 facility will act as a hub for depot operations for all Pratt & Whitney military engines, including those for the F-35, C-17, F-22, F-15, F-16, B-52, and E-3 AWACS.

As the only site capable of performing all F135 power module scope levels, the new Oklahoma City Sustainment Center facility will increase the site’s maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities as the F135 program continues to expand.

Featuring offices, meeting and collaboration spaces, sustainment center, and onsite exercise zone, the facility will consolidate six existing sites into two locations: Pratt & Whitney’s Oklahoma City Sustainment Center and Tinker Air Force Base’s Air Logistics Complex. https://www.prattwhitney.comhttps://www.rtx.com
