Metris (MTRS, Euronext Brussels) inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Manassas, VA, centralizing production of all Metris large-volume metrology products. By streamlining all Laser Radar, iGPS and iSpace manufacturing, Metris supports faster growth of its emerging large-scale metrology solutions.
The new Manassas facility merges two former Metris offices that were originally headquarters to ArcSecond and MetricVision, respectively, but after Metris acquired both firms in recent years, they became integral to the worldwide Metris organization.
"Centralizing all large-volume metrology manufacturing resources at a single location offers many advantages," states Jeff Walker, VP of operations at the Metris Manassas facility. "It will enable Metris to streamline large-volume product operations and further increase the development pace of new product innovations."
The new 30,000ft2 contemporary Metris facility is located in Prince William Technology Park. Approximately 60 employees work at the new Metris facility. Prince William County Official W.S. Wally Covington III presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the grand opening of the new facility. "We are pleased to welcome Metris to Prince William County," Covington says. "This facility illustrates Prince William County's strength as an ideal business location for high tech businesses and international employers." Covington is the elected supervisor of the Brentsville Magisterial District.
At this inaugural event, Metris employees conducted facility tours and product demonstrations to illustrate how the highly-accurate Metris Laser Radar, iGPS and iSpace largescale metrology solutions ultimately roll off the production line. Reliable interaction between ultra-precise optics, mechanics and electronics is achieved by "Swiss-precision" assembly that is performed by specialists in various dedicated assembly rooms. Then the new metrology (sub)systems are tested and calibrated in temperature change laboratories that are equipped with humidity control.
Metris Laser Radar as well as Metris iGPS and iSpace are unique contactless laser-based metrology solutions for large inspection volumes, saving time and effort by reducing measurement resources and throughput time. These state-of-the-art metrology solutions are typically deployed in automotive, aerospace and other manufacturing markets, including shipbuilding and wind turbines.
Metris Laser Radar is the only solution that provides automated non-contact measurement capability for large-volume applications of up to a 60m radius. Metris iGPS is a modular large-volume tracking system enabling factory-wide localization of multiple objects with metrology accuracy, applicable in manufacturing and assembly. us.metris.com
