With aerospace manufacturing trending toward monolithic airframe components and large composite structures, there is a growing need for large-travel machining centers. The VF-12 vertical machining center from Haas Automation, Inc. easily accommodates the large-volume machining found in the aerospace industry.

The Haas VF-12 VMC features travels of 150" x 32" x 30" (XYZ) and has a 150" x 28" T-slot table. It is available in both 40- and 50-taper configuration, with spindle speeds to 10,000rpm.

Standard equipment includes a side-mount tool changer, chip auger system, programmable coolant nozzle, rigid tapping, 95-gallon flood coolant system, 15" color LCD monitor with USB port, and much more.

In 40-taper configuration, the VF-12 is equipped with a 20hp vector dual-drive spindle that spins to 7,500rpm and provides 75 ft-lb of torque. A 24+1 tool side-mount tool changer is standard, with a 40+1 tool side-mount optional. A 10,000rpm spindle is available for high-speed work, and a twospeed geared-head spindle that yields 250 ft-lb of torque is available in both 7,500rpm and 10,000rpm configurations. The 50-taper VF-12 features a 7,500rpm geared-head spindle that provides 450 ft-lb of torque for heavy cutting; it is powered by a 30-hp vector dual drive system that features on-thefly wye-delta switching for a wide constanthorsepower band. A 30+1 tool side-mount tool changer is standard, and a 10,000rpm geared-head spindle is available.

The VF-12's cast-iron construction, triangulated wide-stance castings and heavyduty outriggers provide high accuracy and consistent repeatability. Linear scales are available as an option for extremely precise positioning. Other high-productivity options include high-pressure through-spindle coolant, fourth- and fifth-axis drives, highspeed machining software, a wireless intuitive probing system, and much more.
