This year’s Chicago Innovation Days 2023, hosted at DMG MORI USA’s headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Illinois April 11-14, highlighted Machining Transformation (MX), including technology integration, automation solutions, Digital Transformation (DX), and Green Transformation (GX).
More than 25 advanced machines were on live display in the 21,000ft2 (2,000m2) showroom, along with DMG MORI qualified products (DMQP) partners exhibiting peripherals and accessories. During the four-day event, more than 1,000 visitors learned how combining turn-mill, grinding, additive manufacturing, or ultrasonic technologies in one machine can increase efficiency.
DMG MORI’s automation solutions had a strong presence at the event with expert presentations and hands-on demonstrations, offering standard and custom automation solutions for unmanned production. The pallet handling PH Cell 300 premiered for the first time in the U.S., automating the DMU 50 3rd Generation. The high-precision horizontal machining center NHX with MATRIS Robot Cell also made its U.S. debut. Several automation technologies were also paired with digital solutions to highlight the MX concept.
The event’s last day was dedicated to the DMG MORI Academy and education, with the company hosting students from several high schools and universities, including members of the Illinois Institute of Technology, who with DMG MORI Federal Services, is developing a national center for advanced manufacturing in Chicago for workforce training and applied research and development in critical industrial sectors.
Dr. Masahiko Mori, president of DMG MORI Co. Ltd., noted how the company is addressing decarbonization with GX.
Customers are starting to understand the opportunities from GX beyond environmental benefits, Dr. Mori explained. “GX means you can make more profit, resulting from the need for less energy, less net working capital, and lower labor costs.” https://us.dmgmori.com
