Delcam Rates 2008 Show as ‘Best IMTS Ever'

Delcam claims that the IMTS exhibition held in Chicago in September was the company's most successful in its history.

Delcam claims that the IMTS exhibition held in Chicago in September was the company's most successful in its history. Delcam North America President Glenn McMinn reported that the recent event had generated more inquiries, from a higher-quality audience, than any previous show in the series of biannual events. "We gathered more leads and more sales that we have ever achieved at a North American event," McMinn says. "This was definitely our best IMTS ever."

McMinn admits that he was surprised at the number of people flooding into the Delcam booth. "We included 12 demonstration stations on our booth, which I thought would be more than enough," he states. "After the first day, we set up two more engineers using laptops on our meeting tables and still had people lining up for demonstrations. Even though we had the largest booth in the CAD/CAM pavilion, we were still struggling to find room for all our visitors."

The 2008 exhibition was the first where Delcam had been able to show its complete range of CAM systems on a single booth, following the acquisitions of the FeatureCAM and PartMaker families of software. This was the key factor in the company's success, according to McMinn. "We can now offer a CAM system to machine virtually any product, in any material on any type of equipment," McMinn claims. "No other supplier has such a broad a range of software to increase productivity, improve quality and shorten delivery times in so many applications."

Delcam's full range of CAM systems is now made up of PowerMILL for high-speed and 5-axis machining; FeatureCAM for feature-based milling, turning and wire EDM; PartMaker for Swiss-type lathes; and Art-CAM for routing and engraving. Together, the complete set of programs comprises the world's most comprehensive collection of machining software, giving Delcam an unrivalled ability to provide solutions to all of a company's programming needs.

A second major contributor to Delcam's success at IMTS was the large number of technical partners that were involved in the exhibition. "We had more than 40 of our technical partners among the exhibitors," McMinn reports. "This included many of the leading suppliers of machine tools, cutting tools and inspection equipment. A number of the visitors to our booth had been referred by our partners because they recognize that the best-possible software is needed for their customers to get the maximum benefit from their equipment."

The third important element in Delcam's success was the launch at IMTS of new products across the company's complete range of CAM products. "Delcam employs the largest development team in the CAM industry," McMinn says. "All our developers have been working flat out to have the new releases ready to show at IMTS. The results of their efforts impressed all our visitors, both the potential customers that were looking to upgrade their existing software and our existing users that were excited to see the new enhancements they will be receiving in the coming months." delcam. com
