The Vertical Mate universal cylindrical grinding machine is offered in four different part-swing diameter sizes: 14", 22", 34", 49", and can grind OD, ID, and faces all in one-part chucking with a machine roundness accuracy of less than 0.00004".
A Fanuc FS32i-A control comes standard and features the Taiyo Koki GriPS II conversational programming system. Part programming, wheel definition, and dressing routines can all be programmed without the need for G-code programming.
The grinding wheels are powered by a liquid-cooled, high- frequency spindle using the HSK clamping system for rigidity.
Setup and changeover time is reduced by a standard-installed six-position automatic tool changer (ATC). Grinding wheels can be set up, qualified, and stored in the machine. Wheel truing is performed by a hydraulic swing-up dresser that comes standard with single-point diamonds. Optional rotary disk dressing is also available. Adding or removing grinding wheels from the carousel is done by snapping one in or out through a door on the side of the machine.
The part-measuring option, mounted to a high-precision linear axis, measures OD, ID, faces, and can also perform these checks at multiple locations lengthwise on the part. The measuring probe can provide automatic size corrections to the machine, and captured data can be exported as a file to help with statistical process control (SPC) requirements. Accuracy is maintained by using a calibration ring before every measurement to correct for any thermal expansion.
A T-slot table is standard and accommodates chucks, magnetic chucks, or part fixtures.
