Boeing has added Stratasys’ Antero 800NA thermoplastic to its qualified products list (QPL), enabling the high- temperature polyetherketoneketone (PEKK)-based polymer to be used on flight parts for the company’s planes. It’s the first Stratasys material qualified by Boeing for use in applications with elevated chemical resistance or fatigue requirements.
The Antero materials family includes 800NA and 840CN03, an electrostatic dissipative (ESD) variant. Stratasys provides these materials for customers using Stratasys F900 and Fortus 450mc 3D printers and as a material option for on-demand customers through Stratasys Direct Manufacturing.
Hartzell Engine Technologies receives AM grant from AMA
Hartzell Engine Technologies LLC (HET) will explore various additive manufacturing (AM) technologies to optimize design and improve manufacturing quality of piston aircraft engine accessories, thanks to a grant from Auburn, at Alabama’s Additive Manufacturing Accelerator (AMA).
“We have been actively exploring all of the various benefits available through AM techniques for the past 18 months,” says HET President Keith Bagley. “This grant gives us the opportunity to put our ideas into practice while working with the recognized leaders at Auburn University’s National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME).”
HET Vice President of Engineering Rick Quave explains that the company is concentrating its AM efforts on direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), which uses high-energy lasers to fuse metal powders to form 3D-printed metal parts.
