CNC angular cylindrical grinders
The GAE Series of CNC angular cylindrical grinders features rigid wheelheads, workheads, and tailstock units for precision during heavy grinding. When combined with an angle head-type wheelhead, the GAE performs face grinding similar to that of a plain-type cylindrical grinder.
For precision, efficiency, and productivity, the GAE wheelhead features a highly rigid main body, a heat-treated nitride steel wheel spindle, and a 510mm diameter wheel. To maximize stability and load capacity, the GAE’s wheelhead and table feed include wide, V-flat guiding surfaces. The high damping performance and equalization of lubricant provided by the oil film’s squeezing effect ensure long-term smooth and precise grinding. Non-concentric hydrodynamic bearings secure an optimal wedge angle. An exclusive bearings grinder provides precision bearings.
The GAE is equipped with a non-swivel dead spindle workhead for further stability and low vibration. In addition, a highly rigid tailstock and a large-diameter spindle enable high-precision heavy grinding. The 250mm center-distance model for short length workpieces features a compact workhead and tailstock that reduces the machine’s width approximately 20% compared to previous models.
The GAE includes an interactive automatic programming system that enables a wide range of grinding and dressing patterns. Due to its high output servo motor, the grinder can change workpiece rotational speed steplessly from 15rpm to 600rpm in response to NC instructions.
A wide variety of options for the GAE include an in-process OD gage, a workpiece shoulder locator, and an automatic loading/unloading system.
GAE-30B and GAE-40B types are available in the series. The GAE-30B features a 300mm diameter swing-over table and 250mm to 2,000mm distance between centers. The GAE-40B features a 410mm diameter swing-over table and 220mm to 1,970mm distance between centers. Wheel size for both models is 510mm (OD) x 50mm (W) x 127mm (ID).

High-performance measuring systems
The new Spark and SparkMVP are high-performance dimensional measuring systems for manufacturing quality control. Spark features semi-automatic operation, while SparkMVP offers fully automatic CNC operation. Both measure fine features and provide complete part measurements using advanced, high-resolution, fixed-lens optics with a constant working clearance. Available interchangeable objective lenses offer configurable magnification and field-of-view sizes. A 3-megapixel digital color camera provides high-resolution images and three digital zoom levels. In addition, SparkMVP offers an optional through-the-lens laser with no offset between the laser and optical paths, reducing stage motion and providing overall faster measurements. Spark/SparkMVP measurement volumes range from 150mm x 75mm x 125mm to 300mm x 300mm x 150mm. Spark and SparkMVP are equipped with QVI’s Measure-X metrology software.

High-performance drill
The Cyclone CXD with the ALtima Plus multi-layer AlTiN coating is designed with a new, lower thrust point geometry, enhanced double-margin design, and enhanced surface finish technology pre- and post-coating for high-performance drilling in a broad range of materials. In field testing, these tools have out-drilled competitors by as much as 17% in materials ranging from 4140 steel to titanium. The offering includes solid carbide and coolant-through tools. 3X coolant-through type is available from 3mm to16mm; 3X solid-carbide comes in 3mm to 20mm; 5X coolant-through is available in 3mm to 20mm; and 5X solid-carbide drills come in 3mm to16mm diameters.
Features
- New lower thrust point geometry – Refined edge protection offers better performance in titanium, stainless steel (coolant-through), and carbon steels.
- Enhanced double margin design – Back margin location allows for quicker engagement in hole, improved hole finishes, and improved location when drilling through cross holes.
- ALtima Plus AlTiN multi-layer coating – Higher heat resistance means higher rpm capabilities, and optimized coating structure lengthens drill life and reduces chipping and wear.
- Enhanced surface finish technology pre and post coating – Pre-treatment enhances coating adhesion while post-treatment enhances chip evacuation.
