Updated metrology software, projectors

The SAPHIR QD measurement and analysis software and a new series of projectors update product measurement practices. As soon as the user’s hand disappears from the field of view, the workpiece recognition process is triggered and measurement begins. A measurement report, including a graphical log of the measured elements, is displayed in the live image of the workpiece in the form of an overlay with color coding (green=good; red=bad). The system recognizes workpieces placed on the measurement table in a mirror-inverted way.

High-performance LEDs in both incident and transmitted lighting improve illumination quality and significantly reduce energy consumption. With the upgraded software and projectors, the workpiece automatically integrates itself into the measurement process as an information carrier, without an RFID chip. The system measures individual parts, several identical parts (MMi=multiple measurement identical), and several different parts (MMd=multiple measurement different).

Multi-channel automatic bar loading magazine

The Breuning IRCO ecoPROFI delivers automatic, multi-size barfeeding in an economical, small-footprint package for job shops and others looking to increase flexibility, productivity, and efficiency. Capable of handling barstocks from 0.2" to 2" (5mm to 50mm), the multi-channel, Gatling-gun-style magazine allows one-button channel changes. A three-channel magazine is standard and is expandable to six channels. The ecoPROFI is available in standard lengths of 10ft, 13ft, and 20ft (3,000mm, 4,000mm, and 6,000mm), with custom models available for bars up to 33ft (10,000mm) long and 5.1" (130mm) diameter barstock.

The ecoPROFI is compatible with all standard and Swiss-style lathes as well as machining centers and rotary transfer machines. A specially designed loading flap allows for reloading of bars without machine stop. Hydrodynamic bar guiding circulates oil through the guide channel continuously to produce a damping effect, stabilizing the bar in the channel for concentricity and reduced load on the machine spindle.

Filter for waterjet maintenance

The F23-S filter for the SA5-175PT Sump Shark helps avoid garnet buildup in the catch tank that can be troublesome in waterjet operations. The filter can remove garnet accumulations in dead spots – areas that drop-in hose systems miss or particles that settle too quickly for filtration systems to catch.

The high-suction Sump Shark has pump-in/pump-out capability and operates on plant air supply. The unit has a 175 gallon tank with a flush-to-the-bottom cleanout door. The Shark has suction lift of 26" Hg (350" water).

Non-marring air nozzle

The PEEK Pico super air nozzle delivers one of the smallest, most precise blowoffs available with an efficient, high volume, high velocity airflow. The overall length of the air nozzle measures 0.63" (16mm) with a diameter of 0.20" (5mm), permitting installation in tight spaces. Its PEEK thermoplastic construction provides self-lubricating qualities with a low coefficient of friction to produce non-marring protection for sensitive materials. PEEK thermoplastic has excellent chemical resistance and can withstand many harsh environments found in chemical, plating, etching, and metal cleaning processes.

Designed for blowoff, cooling, and drying applications located in general industrial or corrosive environments, Model 1109-PEEK Pico super air nozzle provides a narrowly focused air pattern. High amplification of airflow and a blowing force of 5.0 oz (142g) are achieved with minimal air consumption of 4.9scfm at 80psig. The nozzles have a high temperature limitation of 320°F (160°C). The nozzle meets the OSHA standard for dead-end pressure 29 CFR 1910.242(b), sound level of 68 dBA, and noise requirement 29 CFR 1910.95(a), and is CE compliant.

The compressed air inlet is male M5 X 0.5. The nozzle is also available in type 316 stainless steel and with NPT threading.

Right-angle gear drives for directional motion change

Crown gear drives, lubricated for life with Beacon 325 premium-grade grease, use heat-treated AGMA Class 10 spiral bevel gears. This combination of bearing design and lubrication formulation ensures long-term, maintenance-free operation for high-performance, industrial applications. The drives feature long-life, precision-hardened and ground ball bearings, and handle speeds up to 2,000rpm. The internal gears are permanently mounted to the shafts with locking pins, providing a resilient and durable connection for heavy-load applications.

Beacon 325 grease ensures performance in temperatures from -50°C to 120°C.

Designed for smooth operation, similar model sizes have identical performance characteristics when designed into multiple drive setups. Drives are pre-lubricated during assembly then completely enclosed in a heavy-duty anodized aluminum housing. Standard two- and three-way models are available with 1:1 and 2:1 speed ratios in shaft diameter combinations of 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4".

Flat washer size expansion

Boker’s Inc. has added 737 new flat washer sizes to its offering to further accommodate a large range of applications and industries, bringing its line of non-standard washer and spacer sizes to more than 28,000 options. Non-standard precision washers are manufactured in more than 2,000 material options with no tooling charges. Outside diameters range from 0.080" to 12" with a wide range of inside diameters.

Metallic washers include low-carbon steel sheet, various spring steels, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and nickel-silver. Non-metallic materials include ABS, acetal, polyester, nylon, MD nylon, polycarbonate, fiber, polyethylene, and various NEMA-grade phenolics.

Vertical machining center with tilting headstock

The VCF 850LSR is a large capacity, travelling-column design, vertical machining center with a tilting B-axis head. This design allows for machining on multiple sides of a workpiece at once. The head can rotate 110° on either side of vertical, enabling machining of large and complex parts in a single setup, eliminating costly fixtures and downtime. With its included 500mm (19.685") rotary table, up to five sides of a part can be accessed.

The B-axis is capable of 900ft-lb of torque during contour machining or can be locked down by means of a hydraulic piston with 1,475ft-lb of torque. Oil cooling around the assembly maintains constant temperature.

The 12,000rpm built-in drive spindle motor has 18.5/22kW (25/29.5hp) and 147.25Nm (108.60ft-lb) of torque. This design promotes thermal stability and keeps vibration at higher rpm to a minimum. A refrigerated cooling control system circulates cooling oil around the spindle to maintain a constant temperature, increasing accuracy. The CAT 40 Big Plus spindle system cartridge type unit is supported by high precision, permanently grease-lubricated ceramic ball bearings. An encoder is attached to the spindle to allow rigid tapping, further increasing productivity.

Axes are roller-type linear motion guideways, with each axis driven by a precision double nut ball screw centered between the guideways and supported on both ends by angular contact thrust bearings.
