High-speed CNC system to debut at IMTS 2014

Designed to bring aerospace quality technology to small and mid-size machines, the Fagor 8060 CNC is equipped with advanced features necessary for high-speed machining, while maintaining machining surface finish with maximum accuracy.

Each 8060 is offered with a 10.4" high resolution LCD TFT color or touch screen, Ethernet, USB, and tele-diagnosis capability. The 8060 can control up to six axes plus three separate spindles with two different execution channels and includes auto-tuning system set-up capability. Performance ability includes block processing speeds of < 1ms while analyzing the tool path with advanced high-speed look ahead utilizing nano-metric resolution. Combined with the Fagor Adaptive Real-time Feed & Speed control (ARFS), the CNC analyzes machining conditions such as spindle load, servo power, and tool tip temperature and adapts both the axis feed rate and the spindle speed to maximize machining productivity with reduced cycle time and superior part finish. Tool utilization is improved, and spindle and servo motor life is extended.

The 8060 includes an HSC Dynamic Override feature that can be adjusted at any time during the cycle execution process. HSC override will dynamically change the axes acceleration and jerk limits in real time to allow for best performance.

To process CAD/CAM generated programs, the 8060 CNC system uses a combination of splines and polynomial transitions as well as the interpretation of the NURB format utilized by CAD/CAM programs. This process helps achieve high feed rate machining while maintaining the accuracy required by all geometries to be machined, decreasing cycle execution time.

Ethernet communication allows the 8060 to be set-up as another node within the computer network, making data exchange fast and easy. The 8060 also contains the capability of executing a program residing on another PC through the Ethernet port, increasing shop floor flexibility.

Horizontal machining center

The MA-12500H horizontal machining center will be on display for the first time at the 2014 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), in booth #S-8500. The hallmark of this machine is its ability to provide a good balance of speed and cutting power for machining of aluminum alloys, cast iron, and difficult-to-machine materials. This suits it for large-part aerospace machining.

Built on an integral bed and base – and designed with reinforcing ribs for increased stability and load carrying capacity – the MA-12500H incorporates Okuma’s Thermo-Friendly Concept to achieve thermal stability and accuracy. Standardly-equipped with a 50-taper, 6,000rpm, 60hp/50hp spindle, it is also available with either a 12,000rpm wide-range spindle or 4,500rpm heavy-duty spindle.

Advanced cutting tools

The Blaxx F5055 slitting cutter is the latest addition to the Blaxx family of high-performance milling cutters. The mill incorporates similar technology to the Cut SX grooving system, which is based on self-gripping, form-locking indexable inserts that provide ideal cutting force for the tool. The SX parting and grooving system also features coolant supply through the tool for optimum cooling of the cutting edge for all monoblock tools in the SX system.

An expansion to the range of long-life standard solid carbide deep-hole drills comes with the introduction of Titex X•treme D40 and the X•treme D50 drills that provide 40xD and 50xD drilling depths respectively. XD technology (XD stands for extremely deep) enables holes to be drilled in one operation without pecking in steel, cast iron, or non-ferrous metals.

New Tiger•tec Silver high-performance cutting material with new positive rake 7° and 11° geometries for steel machining have new geometries that include a classic flat top with a stepped plateau, as well as a robust geometry for maximum process reliability, even for interrupted cuts.

The range of boring and counterboring tools for diverse machining applications has been expanded with Capto adaptors in addition to the existing NCT and ScrewFit adaptor program.

Prototyp Prototex Eco Plus, a through-hole tap designed for through-hole threads up to 3.5xD, can be used on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and copper.

These and other technologies will be featured at the company’s booth at IMTS 2014, Sept. 8-13, 2014, at McCormick Place, Chicago.
