Line of Shop Floor CMMs
The Sheffield 4.5.4 SF, is a line of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) built for the shop floor and designed to withstand harsh manufacturing environments. Integrated into one self-contained unit, with locking wheels for mobility throughout the shop floor, are the CMM’s computer, controller, and interface boxes.

The overall durability of the Sheffield 4.5.4 stems from hardened linear drives and recirculating bearings, features originally pioneered on the Discovery line. The CMM’s unique design and standard elastomeric dampers isolate the measuring platform from most vibrations. Inverted high-resolution Heidenhain scales, covered ways, and internal cable management protect machine components from ambient dust and debris while minimizing friction. An optional active vibration dampening system is available for extreme environments. The 4.5.4 SF also incorporates design improvements for measurement and inspection applications, such as advanced thermal isolation and temperature compensation elements to ensure accuracy in unstable shop floor environments.

PC-DMIS STI+ (single touch interface) is controlled via a touch screen, expediting inspection program selection and launch. The software makes it easy for shop floor personnel to check parts without becoming CMM experts. Product availability is limited to North America.

Risk Free Titanium Milling
The axial forces created when machining in ISO S materials with a solid carbide end mill puts very high demands on the clamping mechanism. In some situations, the tool can pull out from the chuck despite the chuck’s high clamping force. Components produced in these materials are expensive with a large number of machining hours invested, and the consequence of tool pull out is catastrophic.

The iLock fixturing system solves this problem by securing the end mill without interfering with the runout precision of Shrink Fit. Helical grooves are ground into the shank of the tool to achieve this. Pin drivers mounted in the chuck prevent the tool from pulling out of the holder during extreme machining conditions. This solution provides maximum process security.

These chucks and solid carbide end mills offer a combination of security with pull-out prevention and high precision, providing optimized metal cutting efficiency.

The CoroMill Plura with iLock program focuses towards titanium milling in aerospace frame components.

Additive Manufacturing Systems
The AM125 and the AM250 additive-metal systems process a wide variety of materials, including 316L and 17-4PH SS, H13 tool steel, aluminum Al-Si-12, titanium CP, Ti-6Al-4V and 7Nb, cobalt-chrome (ASTM75), and Inconel 718 and 625. Design of both systems are for rapid material changeover, with the AM125 utilizing a cassette type materials delivery system and the AM250 a removable hopper – particularly useful for materials development or use of a range of materials.

Both machines feature a fully welded vacuum chamber, enabling low-pressure evacuation followed by a recharge with high purity argon gas. Gas consumption, after the initial chamber flood, is extremely low and allows operation at oxygen concentrations below 50 parts per million – crucial when processing reactive materials and contributing significantly to material integrity and mechanical performance.
