Digital humidity sensor for aircraft environmental control systems

The 8TJ315AAA1 advanced humidity sensor for aircraft environmental control systems (ECS) contains a sensing element and electronics that convert the water concentration in the air to a standard CAN bus output. The humidity sensor uses a capacitance technique with specialized signal processing to measure the water content.

The humidity sensor has passed tests in accordance with DO-160, substantiating requirements for its location on transport aircraft. The sensor is intended for air ducting installation where humidified air is carried to seating areas. The sensor’s time response is a function of airflow and typically is less than 6 seconds.

The CAN bus output has labels for duct humidity and temperature as well as internal built-in-test capability that indicates detected failures with the sensor and its internal processing circuits.

Characteristics

Silicone jet engine sealants

Thermosil T7000 is a low-density, two-part, silicone sealant that is applied as an abradable air seal for high-speed compressor turbine blades in jet engines. It meets Pratt & Whitney specification PWA 407 and is primarily used in operations at temperatures up to 525°F (274°C). The glass microspheres used in T7000 undergo a proprietary surface treatment that produces a securely cross-linked glass-polymer matrix for durability. High-intensity microsphere processing eliminates glass agglomerates that can clog turbine vane cooling holes and contribute to erosion and seal failure. T7000 is unaffected by aggressive mixing and exhibits excellent application adhesion. It is low viscosity, easily degassed, and machinable when cured.

Thermosil 4000 is a thixotropic, two-part, silicone sealant that is applied as a stator vane potting and damping compound in low-pressure jet engine compressors. It meets the requirements of Pratt & Whitney specification PWA 404-2 and is primarily used for operations at temperatures up to 350°F (177°C). Thermosil 4000 exhibits a high extrusion rate, extended working life, and yields excellent adhesion, damping, and sealing performance.

Both Thermosil products cure to a uniform, black color. Thermosil T7000 is available in a 2.74kg kit, or in premeasured cartridges. Thermosil 4000 is available in premeasured cartridges.

Portable noise and vibration data acquisition system

The LMS SCADAS XS is a portable noise and vibration data acquisition system that provides productivity and measurement quality in a pocket-sized solution. Specifically designed for easy in-field measurements with data quality, the device enables expert users, non-expert users, engineers, and technicians to perform tests throughout the product lifecycle, from early design through in-field troubleshooting.

Measuring less than 170mm x 114mm x 23mm, the unit records and conditions noise and vibration signals acquired from a variety of sensors and can be used as a standalone recorder, with a tablet over Wi-Fi, or connected directly to a PC through USB. Its battery autonomy and on-board storage capacity allow testing engineers to stay unwired for a full day’s testing.

The device is available in a standard six-channel version and an advanced twelve-channel version. In addition to these basic analog input channels (for V/ICP, including TEDS to support typical sensors such as microphones and accelerometers), the tester also supports a headset for binaural recording and stereo audio replay, a digital artificial head through dual SPDIF inputs, two analog tacho signals for RPM measurements, vehicle CAN bus signals, and GPS.

A PC is not required. A tablet app allows engineers to prepare test setups and monitor and validate test data on the go. LMS Smart Scope, a tailor-made app, allows for easy data validation, including audio replay, through a Wi-Fi connection with the LMS SCADAS XS.
