Vertical pick-up machines as modular systems meet manufacturers’ requirements for quality, while maintaining flexibility and reducing cost.
When linked with one of three basic conveyor options – oval, meander, and crossover-meander designs – the right-hand and left-hand versions of the EMCO Maier VT 160 and VT 250 provide complete machining solutions for workpieces with diameters of up to 250mm, weights of 8kg, and a workpiece height of 15mm with 30 workpieces (oval) or 50 workpieces (meander). A cross-over allows the use of different pallets or different workpieces. Each option footprint is only 21m2.
The VT 160 and VT 250 Duo solutions can each perform complete machining of a workpiece (two-face machining with the OP 10 and OP 20). In addition, two different workpieces can be produced (part A on machine 1, part B on machine 2).
Users can opt for different versions and additional options. The version with the moving turret axis and driven tools leverages the benefits of complete machining. An optional multi-function platen can accommodate additional fixed or driven tools. This also applies to long drills and piercing tools. Also optional, operators can add a linear measuring system, process monitoring, and electronic evaluation.
The automation solution available with Duo supports a variety of customer-specific solutions – with or without a workpiece carrier or pallet. The compact Duo cell offers unrestricted access for loading and unloading workpieces.
Multiple machine operation and rapid set-up and retooling save time. Optimized production processes and short chip-to-chip times for the vertical machines create conditions for complete machining with high quality and efficiency.
The machines feature steel-welded construction of the vibration-damping machine bed and thermo-symmetrical construction of the headstock ensure excellent rigidity, as do the large distances between the guideways and the size 45 linear carriage.
The digitally controlled synchronous motor on the main spindle can handle heavy-duty machining. Directly driven 40mm-diameter ball screws with lash- and maintenance-free couplings achieve speeds up to 60m/min. Mechanical weight compensation prevents the Z-axis dropping in case of a power failure.
Both the inner and the outer machine panels are designed for low maintenance. The stainless steel covers and strippers eliminate telescopes, while guideways and seals are protected against swarf. Fully enclosed guarding permits part removal while the machine door stays closed, even when picking up the workpiece.
