GaN high electron mobility transistors

mobility transistors

Gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) provide a host of performance advantages compared to silicon (Si) and gallium arsenide (GaAs) devices and are rapidly becoming more cost-competitive as well. Enabling extremely wide bandwidths in small and lightweight packages, GaN HEMTs are appropriate for broadband, high power, CW applications including radar amplifier systems, telecommunications amplifiers, and C-IED equipment.

S-Band GaN HEMTs can be used in 2.9GHz to 3.5GHz radar amplifier systems, including: weather, air-traffic control, marine, port surveillance, and search and rescue radar applications. Based on high power density 50V, 0.4μm GaN on silicon carbide foundry process and performance-rated at 85°C case, both the 150W CGHV35150 and 400W CGHV35400F GaN HEMTs feature considerably smaller footprints than competing GaAs or Si RF technology, enabling enhanced design flexibility and satisfying both current and future demands for higher frequency, higher linearity operation, and lower cost packaging.

Hybrid polymer-aluminum capacitors

Type HZA hybrid polymer-aluminum electrolytic capacitors combine the advantages of both technologies. The ultra-low equivalent series resistance (ESR) characteristics of conductive aluminum polymer capacitors are packaged in a V-chip and SMT case with high capacitance and voltage ratings that were previously available only in aluminum electrolytic technology.

Capacitance values for type HZA range from 10µF to 330µF at voltage ratings from 25VDC to 80VDC and ripple current values exceeding 2,000mA on larger chip sizes. When operated at their rated temperature of 105°C and rated voltage at full ripple current load, type HZA capacitors have a life of 10,000 hours.

The hybrid series also offers consistent smoothing performance at higher switching frequencies and lower temperatures.

Software release supports multi-recorder synchronization

RF Studio softwareA new software release of FR Studio handles four or more phase-coherent RF channels for applications requiring tight synchronization. A highlight of the release is the ability to synchronize four channels within 1ns.

For multiband applications such as precision GPS – with signals found simultaneously in L1, L2, and L5 bands – multiple phase-coherent RF channel support is a crucial requirement, especially for development and characterization of RF receivers and the environments in which they are designed to operate.

RF Studio enables users to make RF recordings, easily manage collected data, and play back their real-world radio, video, or navigation signals for in-depth, repeatable analysis and testing. The release is available for both cost-effective and high-performance platforms and includes smart RF-chain configuration, signal templates, a noise figure to optimize gain, and tools to visualize and analyze captured signals. The new version is available at no cost to customers with valid RF Studio licenses.

Highlights

  • Multi-recorder and player synchronization
  • New map features
  • Supports NI USRP software-defined radio platform (Beta)
  • Usability and productivity enhancements

Ultrasonic diagnostic tool

Ultrasonic diagnostic toolThe MDE-2000NC Marksman II is an ultrasonic diagnostic tool that converts and amplifies ultrasonic sound into audible, natural sound. This tool allows the technician to hear even the smallest compressed air, natural gas, propane tank, vacuum, and steam leaks before they lead to major breakdowns.

The Marksman II uses a two-tiered approach. The receiver converts inaudible ultrasonic sound into audible sound using heterodyne circuitry. Then, sound signature technology fine-tunes the audible sound into the natural sound emitted by the leak itself. A five-LED signal intensity indicator, coupled with an audible alarm, pinpoints the exact source of the problem. An internal noise control feature safeguards against ambient noise.

The tool comes with an ultrasonic receiver; full-sized, heavy duty, noise-canceling headphones; a hollow air probe; a solid contact probe; and an ultrasonic emitter that helps locate faulty seals, gaskets, and weather-stripping in doors, windows, ductwork, and other non-pressurized enclosures.

Specifications

  • Sensitivity: Detects leaks from orifices as small as 0.004 " (0.1mm) at 5.0psi (34.0kPa), from distance of 12" (30cm)
  • Weight (with batteries): 1.5 lb (680g)
  • Housing: Chemical-resistant ABS
  • Battery life: 165 hours (approx.)
  • Power requirements: Two D cell alkaline batteries (included)
  • Frequency response: 36,000Hz to 44,000Hz
  • Circuitry: Solid state

Flexible type ZHLA conduit

ZHLA conduitType ZHLA is a zero-halogen, jacketed metallic flexible steel conduit that is now UL listed and CSA certified. This conduit is suitable for field installations in confined, public areas because its thermoplastic polyurethane jacket has excellent flame resistance as well as low smoke and toxicity characteristics. It is also resistant to ozone, hydrocarbons, moderate chemicals, oils, and fuels. The flexible inner core is made from a spiral-wound strip of heavy-gauge, hot-dipped galvanized steel, providing high mechanical strength. Its standard color is black but is also available in blue, green, yellow, orange, white, and gray.

Halogen-free conduits provide a range of safe choices for applications in which fire may be a concern and materials must be free of the caustic effects of halogen as products of combustion. Other types of halogen-free conduit include: shielded conduit, lightweight aluminum conduit, extreme temperature conduit, and nylon Corrlok conduit.

Planetary gearhead series

Planetary gearheadThanks to the sturdy construction, Faulhaber metal planetary gearheads are suited for high-torque applications. The 17/1 gearhead is the latest addition to the product line in the 16mm to 20mm diameter range. It is available with up to five gear speeds, with standard reductions of 3.33:1 to 1,367:1.

The 17/1 series, with a diameter of 17mm and stainless steel housing as well as steel and hard metal planetary gearheads and pins, is designed for continuous torque of 550mNm and short-term loads of up to 800mNm. Sintered bearings ensure axial shaft clearances under 0.1mm. With pre-loaded ball bearing, this can be reduced to zero, if necessary. The default operating temperature range is between +100°C and -30°C. The gearhead is also available as a low-temperature model for requirements down to -40°C.

Planetary gearhead features

  • Extremely light and compact from 6mm to 44mm
