Twin-spindle, single-turret lathe
The Cyclone 78-MSY 6-axis, twin-spindle, single-turret, multitasking lathe is designed to get complex work done in one operation. The machine features a 3" bar capacity, beltless, 30hp, 4,000rpm Mitsubishi main spindle and an integral, Mitsubishi 20hp, 4,000rpm sub-spindle. A 30" turning length allows for ample tool clearance, and chucks up to 10" diameter can be mounted on the A2-6 spindles.
The 16-station, radial mount, BMT-65 high-speed servo turret indexes in 0.2 seconds and features 7.5hp milling on all 16 tool stations. Both axial and radial tools can be mounted to machine on the main and sub-spindle from each tool station, so the tool count can exceed 30 tools. The linear Y-axis features 4" of travel and uses dual toolholders. The turret is rated for high-pressure coolant up to 1,000psi.
A fully synchronized C-axis on both spindles offers accurate contouring with a resolution of 0.001°.
The Mitsubishi M720 CNC control has a 64-bit RISC-CPU running at 135,000 blocks per minute with a 680-block look-ahead to provide shape definition and enhanced surface finishes. Ethernet RJ-45, USB, and RS-232 communications interfaces allow for easy program transfer.

Cellulose filter media
HydroFlow Hydrofiber is a natural powdered cellulose filter media produced from virgin pulp. Each grade meets standards for quality and filtration performance consistency.
This industrial powdered cellulose filter media promotes cake filtration, a method of filtering and removing the finest particulate from various metalworking fluids. Compatible in many pressure filter styles, it rapidly mixes to form a slurry for uniform distribution and can be mixed with removed contaminate for disposal.
Hydrofiber can be used in vacuum filtration on filter drums, screens, and removable vacuum elements. It enhances filter clarity and performance for rolled media vacuums and pressure filters and aids in the recovery of precious metals with low ash content upon incineration.

Turning portfolio expands
The Victory family of turning inserts offers new geometries and grades that improve chip flow for smooth machining, improved efficiencies, and extended tool life.
For difficult-to-machine materials, the Victory FS geometry is a ground, high-positive design best used in finishing tasks where surface finish and minimizing part deflection are critical. Precision grinding, proprietary nose geometry, and optimized edge treatment produce an insert that retains its high-quality cutting edge with minimal heat generation and good chip breaking at finishing parameters.
The FS is available in WS10PT, a high-performance PVD grade using a two-layer coating that increases coating integrity and reduces depth-of-cut notching. All inserts in the WS10PT grade undergo a post-coat treatment to increase compressive stress and improve edge toughness, delaying built-up edge, resulting in longer tool life. WS10PT is available in the universal roughing (UR) geometry.
UR geometry is designed to increase roughing and medium turning performance in stainless steels and steel workpieces. Its chip breaker and rake profile design, without inflection points, breaks up stringers without concentrating cutting forces that result in breakage. Together with a multi-layer coating with a ZrCN top coat for both extended performance and improved wear identification, the result is the ability to improve speeds or feed rates, increase productivity, and reduce cycle times.
Grades WP15CT, WP25CT, and WP35CT are also available in the UR geometry to improve performance on steel workpieces. These new grades also feature the ZrCN top coating and proprietary post-coat treatment that reduces friction and improves edge toughness as well as functioning as a wear indicator.

Robotic finishing machine blasts shot, grit
The new version of the RB-RSSA-8 robotic blast system is customized to the special requirements for cleaning and surface preparation of machined aerospace castings using either shot or grit media.
A FANUC Robotics LR Mate-200iD 6-axis robot is mounted on the reinforced back wall of the blast chamber, a position that allows greater reach and motion capability to process components.
A 24" diameter turntable accepts the holding fixtures for all parts to be blasted and is servomotor-driven, so the radial orientation of the component is coordinated as a seventh axis by the robot’s R-30iB controller. A jib crane mounted on the roof of the blast enclosure and a rubber-flapped crane slot facilitate loading of heavy parts onto the table with a weight capacity of 250 lb.
