Precision Air Chucks
The model 425 (0.0001" T.I.R.) air chuck has been modified and is now available. The workpiece is loaded into the chuck sprocket side down and the sprocket face is used for axial location. The locator provides radial (spring pins) to orient the workpiece at a 45.648°angle while hardened and ground top jaws to grip a 43.3mm internal diameter towards the top of the workpiece.
Northfield Precision designs and manufactures accurate air and diaphragm chucks for any lathe, boring machine, grinder, or VMC. Models include through-hole, high-speed and quick-change and are available in SAE or metric, in sizes from 3" (76mm) to 18" (457mm). Accuracies of 0.00100" to 0.00001" (0.254m) are guaranteed.

Titanium Cutting Tools
Two new grades of cutting tools are available to tackle the extreme demands of titanium milling. Together, these grades amount to a new level of reliable, long lasting performance. Grades S30T and S40T are available for a variety of CoroMill cutters for face, shoulder, long-edge and high feed milling, plunging, profiling, and slot milling.
Grade S30T, for speed and tool life, has been developed with productive titanium milling in focus. It combines the properties of micro-grain carbide and a wear resistant PVD coating. This enables very sharp cutting edges that resist fatigue and micro-chipping, resulting in cutting edges that are preserved for longer times in cut at higher cutting speeds.
Grade S40T is developed for difficult conditions. and combines high toughness cemented carbide with a thin CVD coating. The result is a grade that withstands vibrations and other difficult cutting conditions for longer times in cut. The wear is predictable, making the cutting edge gradually duller without breaking.

Robotic Shot Peening
A robotic shot peening system that changes blast heads to automatically perform multiple peening operations without manual adjustments or other human intervention is now available. It features a slotted rack inside the shot peening chamber, where the blasting tools are stored by the nozzle manipulator when not in use.
One wall of the 86" x 78" x 78" peening cabinet has a large opening, fitted with a custom-tailored protective suit for the articulated 6-axis robotic arm. The laminated fabric seals the rubber-lined blast chamber, which is fabricated from 1/2" thick continuously welded steel plate, and isolates the robot from the harsh shot peening environment.
The shot peening machine is equipped with a 3,000 lb capacity, 65" diameter turntable that is driven by a servomotor and controlled as a seventh axis of robotic motion. The rotary lance peening nozzle has a servomotor drive, and rotation of the nozzle is programmed through the robot controller as an eighth axis.
Critical to compliance with stringent aerospace shot peening specifications, the robotic nozzle manipulator is capable of repeatably following the contours of complex-shaped components while constantly and accurately maintaining the correct stand-off distance, nozzle angle, and surface speed required for the precisely controlled cold-working metal treatment process.
