Advanced Composites Group, a member of the Composites Division of Umeco plc, has announced that it will assist Airbus Industries in a research program being put in place to develop novel materials and process technologies for potential use on the Next Generation Composite Wing (NGCW), backed by £103 million from government and industrial partners.
ACG and 16 other leading British organizations in both industrial and research composites will work together with Airbus to develop new technologies suitable for the NGCW. The three-year Research and Technology program has been set up to develop the future wing design and manufacturing process to minimize the environmental impact of future aircraft. ACG has been selected to apply its technical expertise to assist in the design and manufacture of NGCW, which is considered to be vital to the future of more environmentally-friendly air travel. The NGCW objective is to optimize the weight, design and manufacturing cost of the aircraft wing, thereby improving efficiency and performance – burning less fuel means lower costs and fewer emissions. advanced-composites.com
