Quintus Technologies HIP extends Paulo’s capabilities
Paulo, a heat-treating specialist, will add hot isostatic pressing to its thermal processing services with a hot isostatic press (HIP) from Quintus Technologies. The QIH 122 M URC has Quintus’ uniform rapid cooling (URC), a feature that improves material properties in additive manufacturing (AM) and investment casting.
Scott Herzing, Paulo vice president of engineering, says, “The ability to combine HIP and heat treatment will allow us to offer one-stop-shop thermal processing solutions with faster turnaround times.”
The HIP will be installed in Paulo’s recently expanded Cleveland division, in Willoughby, Ohio, which provides specialized brazing and vacuum heat treatment.
The Paulo order includes an extra furnace base, extended warranty, and a five-year Quintus Care agreement for preventative maintenance.
Paulo and Quintus Technologies also have a marketing agreement to collaboratively increase high-pressure heat treatment (HPHT) process use.

Sciaky joins the Alliance for the Development of Additive Processing Technologies
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) equipment supplier Sciaky Inc. has joined the Alliance for the Development of Additive Processing Technologies (ADAPT) to expand adoption of electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM) technology. EBAM features the interlayer real-time imaging and sensing system (IRISS), which can sense and digitally self-adjust metal deposition.

Headquartered at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, ADAPT is an industry-academia consortium that advances data informatics and characterization technologies to optimize processes, materials, and parts for additive processing. ADAPT will collaborate with Sciaky to provide an understanding of how the process variables effect material microstructure and final part properties.
