PKM Machining Center
The Tripod 700S Powerflex is a modular 6-axis Parallel Kinematics Machining (PKM) Center. PKM technology means that the motions in X, Y, and Z are performed by three parallel axes that provides good stiffness and accuracy with a maintained flexibility and cutting area. It combines the flexibility and envelope of a robot but with the accuracy and stiffness of traditional machine tools. The Tripod Powerflex does not notice any differences between a perpendicular hole or surface compared to a compound angle, making it suitable for complex machining. The work envelope is 800mm x 800mm x 400mm.

Swiss-Type Lathe,
Bar Machines
The Cincom M432VIII Swiss-type lathe and Miyano BNA-42MSY multi-tasking bar machine will be exhibited along with the Cincom and Miyano turning machines and accessories that deliver manufacturing solutions in 2mm to 64mm bar applications. The M432VIII incorporates a third Y-axis on the back tool post and a B-axis with rotary tools on the gang toolpost. The B-axis locates on the slant axis in reference to the Y-axis direction. When drilling angular holes on a conventional machine, an adjustable angle spindle is required. However, with this machine, a B-axis incorporating rotary tools can be used to change the angle, continuously, allowing machining of multiple angular holes in a single set up.

Constant Zero Positioning
W/Z zero tracking capability for horizontal boring mills and HMCs is possible with the Siemens 840D control, bringing an operator-friendly feature to machinists programming collinear axes. Previously available only on the NumeriPath 8000 control, W/Z zero tracking for up to three collinear axes can be retrofitted to existing machines with 840D controls or added to new machines. W/Z tracking accounts for changes in machine geometry when one of the axes in a collinear set is repositioned in the part program. It electronically tracks each axis of the collinear set to calculate and maintain the correct part reference coordinate when one of the axes is repositioned.

Fracture Splitting
Fracturing occurs when a notch is inserted by laser at a defined position in the part. The laser then sets up parameters which are calculated after a series of tests. A fracture mandrel is then applied in a high force to the part, which breaks exactly along the laser notch. The separated components do not require any additional machining since the cracked surfaces provide an exact fit for the parts to be joined again.
